Five Years, Two Chefs, and a Thousand Stories

But These Two Stand Out

When we first opened the hatch of our little retro food truck, we knew we didn’t want to play it safe. Most people would’ve launched with simple bites and coffee — but not us. On day one, we decided every single customer would get a hand-crafted smoked cheese and bacon jam smash burger, made to order. It was absolute madness in the best way. The grill was relentless, the prep endless, and we were running on pure adrenaline — but we pulled it off. That day set the tone for everything that followed: bold ideas, no shortcuts, and quality above all else.

Since then, we’ve grown, adapted, and pushed ourselves in ways we never imagined. But if there’s one weekend that still stands out as our biggest challenge — and proudest moment — it was the time we ran the eatery and catered a wellness retreat simultaneously.

The retreat wasn’t your typical gig. Each dish needed to be tailored, nutritionally balanced, and even colour-matched to guests’ individual needs. We split responsibilities — one of us stayed at the eatery, the other took the lead on-site — and somehow, between early mornings, late nights, and a million WhatsApp messages, we made it work. That weekend tested every bit of our skill and stamina, but it reminded us what we’re capable of when we trust each other and give it everything.

Moments like those aren’t just memories — they’re milestones. They remind us why we started this journey in the first place, and how proud we are of what we’ve built. Here’s to more burgers, more beautiful chaos, and many more years of doing things our way.

Origin story

Our story began in a lovingly restored retro food truck, parked in the charming village of Otford, Sevenoaks. We served up wild and wonderful creations that quickly earned a reputation for quality, originality, and flair. The local community embraced us, and it wasn’t long before word spread beyond Otford.

Quality over quantity

From day one, we made a promise to ourselves: never compromise on quality. Every dish we serve is made from scratch, using fresh and locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. Our food celebrates the seasons, the region, and the people we serve. Whether we’re cooking burgers with a twist, slow-roasting meats for an autumn fair, or plating canapés for a wedding, we pour the same care and love into every bite.

More than just food

But Bill & Lyds is more than just food – it’s about experience. We believe that good food should make you feel something. It should bring joy, start conversations, and create memories. Our approach is personal, warm, and collaborative. We listen to our customers, learn about their needs, and work together to craft food experiences that exceed expectations.
